    COGS should 100% be considered in merch settlements. I know for a fact that promoters use COGS as a deduction for themselves so why shouldn’t the artist?

    • @chrisgoyzueta

      Exactly “or any cut at all”. At the most I think promoters/venues should just get a flat rate fee like the booth/space rental fee for fairs and festivals and conventions and the like.

    Hello Chris, I’ve assumed the role of an artist manager and the artist has had some relevant local success but lost momentum along the way. I’ve recently had a meeting with a talent buyer at live nation who commended my boldness for reaching out for a “hold”. My question is how does an artist manager book festivals performances for their artists? What exactly I’m asking in industry term?

    • @chrisgoyzueta
      @chrisgoyzueta 4 месяца назад

      This might be a good video idea for this Summer. You have to ultimately create value for your artist. Festivals like to see - 1. How much engagement you have on socials & spotify 2. Are you local or regional to the festival location (some support their local scene) 3. They a lot of times book smaller artists from the same agencies, labels, and management companies as their headliners - so the team makes a big impact. 4. Are you worth tickets in the area, and do you have a positive relationship with venues/promoters. 5. Do you have a relationship with the festival producers. Best plan of attack - 1. Put out good music 2. Test and run consistent ads to gain new fans 3. Build from a small venue, sell that out, patiently grow into the next size venues and don't move up until you're able to sell out the previous capacity 4. Put out consistent content 5. Be patience & be consistent over a long period of time. For some artists like the 502's, it might take 3-5 years to get on a Live Nation tour. For artists like Jelly Roll, it might take 10-15 years. There is a saying - you become an overnight success by being consistent for 10 years. Then you're "best new artist" even though you've been grinding for years. Hope this help! Got a little long in the tooth and passionate on this response. ha!

    • @chrisgoyzueta
      @chrisgoyzueta 6 месяцев назад

      Not legal advice. For educational purposes only. Make sure to hire an attorney or tax professional to get what you specifically need for your business. In general, when someone is managing an artist, they don’t need any type of license in most states in the United States. An LLC is a great layer of protection along with general liability insurance. To book shows, every state has different laws. Some may require you to be a licensed talent agent to book shows.

    • @chrisgoyzueta
      @chrisgoyzueta 4 месяца назад

      since this is vs. Net, it's after all expenses are paid. so in this scenario the promoter would Gross a little over $7k. But they may have expenses of their own, which is why I say "Gross"

    Hiw much do u as promoter get paid????

    • @chrisgoyzueta
      @chrisgoyzueta 8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the question. There is no cookie cutter answer to this because as an independent you’re taking all the risk. You could lose $10k or make $10k on a show or anything in between pending how big the show is. And that’s at a 750 to 1,500 capacity range. The opportunity and loss gets much bigger the larger the venues get. If you’re working for someone - a Jr. Buyer should make $40-60k per year, club buyer $40-80k plus bonuses, Talent Buyer $75-100k plus bonuses, and senior buyer anywhere north of $100k per year plus bonuses. Just some guidelines. It all depends size of venues, number of venues, and if they’re in touring, just a region, or only a local market.

    • @chrisgoyzueta
      @chrisgoyzueta 8 месяцев назад

      If you can get shows that venues want and they can’t or you can bring a venue volume, and run shows well, deals change very fast. I’ve received rebates or “promoter bumps,” or have given them to promoters when I was on the venue side. Very common in arenas, but definitely happens in clubs and theaters.

    Thank you for this and your other very helpful videos. In this one, I see that you did not include the Artist Guarantee as part of the Promoter's Expenses. Other discussions I have seen include that guarantee when calculating the Split Point. And then, if the Artist earns more than the guarantee on the split, the amount of the guarantee is added back into the Promoter's profit because they didn't have to shell that amount out (since the Artist got paid even more from the split alone). Could you please comment on this approach and why you prefer to leave the Guarantee out of the Promoter's expenses? Thank you!

    • @chrisgoyzueta
      @chrisgoyzueta 8 месяцев назад

      Hi - just replied to your email too - The guarantee is only included in the expenses in a Promoter Profit deal or also known as a Plus deal. On a versus deal, it's basically a greater than deal. Whichever is greater, the guarantee or percentage is what the artist receives. Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions. Appreciate the comment and support!
